Learn How To Save Yourself If You Are Ever Thrown Into The Trunk Of A Car

by Siep Baremans

Being kidnapped is not something anyone plans on happening to them, but if you are ever kidnapped, knowing what to do could save your life. When people are kidnapped, they are often thrown into the trunk of the car because it keeps them subdued, hidden, and confined. If you are kidnapped, you need to break out the taillights in the vehicle so you can alert other drivers that you are being kidnapped. The following guide walks you through the simple and easy way to break out the taillights in a car when you are trapped inside of it.

Get Your Bearings

The first thing you need to do is figure out the layout of your trunk. Find out where the back of the car is located and turn your body so that you are facing it.

Peel Away the Carpeting

Most trunks are lined with some sort of carpeting to give them a finished look. Feel for the corner of the car that is located on the side of the car where the trunk door latch is located. Find the edge of the carpeting and pull it away from the frame of the car. The carpeting is usually held in place by clips that easily release with a gentle tug.

Find the Light

Feel around behind the carpeting until you find wires. Pull on the wires as hard as you can until they come loose. This will cut the power to the light which will stop it from glowing when the brake is applied.

Break out the Light

Use the heel of your foot to kick the light as hard as you can. Be sure that you are as quiet as you can be during this step so that you do not alert the kidnapper of what you are doing.

Alert Other Drivers

Once you have kicked out the light, you should be able to see daylight and see other drivers passing by the car. Stick your hand out of the hole where the light was located and wave your hand as much as you can. This will show other drivers that someone is in the trunk which could cause them to call the police who could then rescue you.

When the other drivers alert the police, a locksmith can be called to the scene to get you out of the trunk if the driver has hot-wired the car and does not have the key or has somehow broken the lock in an attempt to keep you inside of the trunk. A professional car locksmith, like those as Valley Lock & Safe, will be able to remove the locking harness altogether to get you out safely and soundly.
