2 Ways To Easily Hide A Spare Key Outsideof Your Home

by Siep Baremans

If you are worried about becoming locked out of your home, you might want to think about hiding a spare key outside of your home. Of course, you need to make sure that you are finding the best possible hiding places for your spare keys so that strangers do not find them. To help you with that, you might want to check out some of the following unique hiding places for spare keys.

In The Birdbath

It is not likely that a criminal is going to stand in your yard and get wet looking through your birdbath in hopes that there might be a key hidden there, as that might draw a lot of attention from the neighbors. This is what makes it the perfect hiding spot. Just make sure that you are first emptying the birdbath of all water and decorative rocks and stones. Place your spare key in a sealed plastic bag, as this will prevent water from directly touching the key, which would cause it to rust. You will then want to securely tape the key and bag to the birdbath bowl so that it can be covered by decorative rocks or ones. Once everything is back in place, you can add fresh water.

Under A Rock

Instead of just sticking a key under the rock itself, which could be easily discovered by accident, you will want to get a little more creative. Take a prescription medication bottle and stick your key in there before closing the lid tight. The bottle will protect the key from moisture that would cause it to become rusted and therefore useless. Then, you will want to glue the top of the lid to the bottom of flat rock that will be a decorative piece in your flower garden. You will probably have to use an super strong industrial glue in order to get everything to stick in place. Once he glue has dried, you can dig a little hole for the prescription bottle to slide into. It has to be a hole that is deep enough to completely hide the bottle, but still allow the rock to stay above ground. If you will have several rocks in your flower garden you might want to make the rock with the key in a special way so that it is easy to find. For example, you can paint your family name or initial on it, or place a decorative figure on the ground right next to it.

With those two ideas in mind, you really should not have much of a problem making sure that your spare key is in a safe hiding spot outside. For more information, contact companies like Arapahoe County Security Center Inc.
