Protecting Your Valuables With The Right Safe

Creating A Secure Complex

by Siep Baremans

As an apartment manager, you have to make a lot of choices regarding things that help to create a better living environment for a large number of people who are counting on you. Learn about both large and small decisions you can make that will help you to offer your tenants a safer and more comfortable living situation.

Post complex rules in plain site

By posting a sign of important rules, such as no loitering, no skateboarding and no littering, not only will you be reminding people not to do these things, but you will also have a better standing when it comes to enforcing these rules. Post the signs near a light, so they can be easily seen both during daytime and nighttime hours.

Hold community pot lucks

When you hold community pot lucks for the staff and the residents, you will be helping to open a clear and comfortable line of communication. You may be surprised by how much you can learn about what's going on in the complex during one of these events. You will also be letting the community know that you are an approachable manager they can come to for issues.

Consider installing a gate around the property

If you find that a lot of people who don't live in the complex are using the grounds as a hang out or to cut through to get to other places, then you may want to install a gate around the complex. This will ensure that only people who have the correct card or code to open the gates are able to get in. Visitors will have to call tenants at the entrance to be buzzed in.

Have locks changed right away

The minute a resident vacates an apartment in your complex, you want to have a commercial locksmith service come out and change all the exterior locks for that apartment. Otherwise, you may find the old tenant has given out the old keys and people may come into that apartment and cause some damage to it. Also, the tenant themselves may even cause problems if they left on bad terms. Also, don't forget to change the locks on any storage units, garages or other facilities that only that apartment had access to.

Following the advice above will help create a better and safer environment for all your tenants, which will in turn make them enjoy living in the complex more.
